Losing weight is never easy. Even if you only want to drop a few pounds, it seems like the number on the scale remains the same, no matter what you do. As such, it's not uncommon to restrict calories to the extent that you feel like you're starving.

But the fact of the matter is, even if you do lose the extra weight, slashing your calories too much can have a negative effect both physically and mentally.

If you are trying to lose weight and think that a starvation diet is the only way to reach your goals, you may want to read on. Here's everything you need to know about too restrictive dieting and what it really does to your metabolism.

It Could Potentially Reduce Fertility

If you are trying to lose weight and think that a starvation diet is the only way to reach your goals, you may want to read on. Here's everything you need to know about too restrictive dieting and what it really does to your metabolism.

One of the most damaging risks of restricting calories is how it affects fertility. Without consuming the proper amount of calories, the estrogen levels are significantly reduced.

According to the National Center of BioTechnology Information, women who eat up to 42 percent less than their usual calorie intake can experience a suppression in their reproductive system.

There are various signs of low fertility including abnormal menstrual periods or not having any for long periods of time. In some cases, however, symptoms may not present themselves, which warrants a visit to the doctor.

It’s also worth pointing out that men can also experience problems with fertility if their calorie intake isn’t sufficient. Nutrition coaching for busy moms is one of the best ways create a fitness plan that fits your lifestyle.

Your Bones Become Significantly Weaker

When taking care of the health of your bones, the first thing we think about is calcium. And while this is true, calcium isn’t the only thing keeping your bones in good shape.

Calories also play a vital role when it comes to your bone health. If you restrict too many calories, both the testosterone and estrogen levels start to tank. These hormones are considered to cause your bones to breakdown.

In worst case scenario, a poor calorie intake can even lead to bone loss. Bone loss is an irreversible condition and greatly increases the risk of various issues. Health coaching for moms can shed light on exactly how much calcium you need while dieting.
