Gut Health Is Impacting Your Weight Loss

How Poor Gut Health Is Impacting Your Weight Loss
Our gut is made up of billions of bacteria, both good and bad. These bacteria help to support our immune system, supply our body with nutrients, and aid in digestion. When these bacteria are balanced, it allows our body to operate as it should. However, when they are out of balance it can cause gas, indigestion, fatigue, headaches, bloating, weight gain, and irritability. It will also affect how different foods you eat are digested, which in turn can affect your weight.

Silent, But Serious
The health of your gut can prevent you from losing unwanted weight. Poor gut health can cause your body to go into a panic, which causes silent inflammation. Because the inflammation is silent, meaning it does not cause any physical pain, it can go on for many years undetected. Don’t let that fool you though. It may be silent, but it can still cause a multitude of health issues, including obesity and difficulty losing weight.

Be Proactive
If you are trying to lose weight, you’ll want to do things that ensure your gut bacteria are working for you and not against you. Five ways to help balance out your good and bad gut bacteria are:

  • Take a daily probiotic that has Lactobacillus strains.
  • Eat fruits, beans, and a variety of vegetables.
  • Get started with a personal trainer that specializes in wellness coaching.
  • Eat fermented foods like yogurt and kimchi.
  • Avoid artificial sweeteners.

All Fats Are Not Created Equal
When we hear the word “fat” we tend to think of it as something we should avoid. While some fats are bad for us, not all are created equal. Incorporating healthy fats like coconut oil, omega-3s, avocados, and extra-virgin olive oil can actually reduce inflammation levels, which will restore gut health and increase weight loss.

Stay Accountable
Short term changes will produce short term results. It is easy to slip back into bad habits if you aren’t linking arms with a person that specializes in wellness coaching. Without their guidance we tend to let ourselves slack off a bit, even if we are seeing positive results from changes we have made. The thing about gut bacteria is that it has no problem going back into an unhealthy state. It is happy to return to a chaotic state and wreak havoc on your body again. Wellness coaching will help you to stay accountable to your weight loss goals and to your overall gut health.
